These two lovely people made me rethink how special an elopement could be. Sarah and Ryan decided to rent a room at a hotel in New Smyrna Beach to have a romantic getaway and elope quietly on their own without all the stress of a big wedding.
They didn’t leave their family and friends out of the loop though. Ryan was able to set up his phone to live stream the entire thing. I’ve never seen this done before and thought it was a great idea. They had people from all over watching them say their vows and commenting live.
When I arrived to meet the happy couple they were still getting ready. We talked puppies and about Discovery Channels “aliens” series that happened to be playing on TV. They weren’t worried about all of the traditions like not seeing each other getting dressed, but there were a few that they did keep and others they decided to create.
Sarah was sure to keep a few family heirlooms on hand, like this bible and ribbons and some family jewelry. Sarah also had all of the flower arrangements made by her friend Lauren, owner of Hazel and Thorn who did an amazing job. Did you know those little brown petals in the photo above are pistachio shells??
Their ceremony was adorable, full of laughter and tears. Once they said “I Do” Ryan wasted no time in getting their first kiss as Mr. and Mrs.
They took a short walk on the beach to talk and let everything sink in. After a bit of playing in the waves and shell collecting, we headed to the hotel to cool off.
They weren’t aware I took this photo, but I couldn’t resist the sandy feet and thoughts running through their heads at this point. It’s sinking in, they are married!
After a little cooldown time in the pool house, we headed back to the room for a celebratory shot of whiskey and glass of champagne.
Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Ryan Summey!
